Mark Lowrie Named 2024 Ohio Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Mr. Mark Lowrie, Gahanna Lincoln High School broadcast journalism teacher, for being named the Ohio Department of Education 2024 Ohio Teacher of the Year!
Lowrie was honored in an assembly Sept. 7 and was recognized by leaders from the Ohio Department of Education, as well as legislators and District and building leadership. Joining in on the celebration were students he has had as part of his classes.
“We cannot be more proud of Mr. Lowrie and his efforts that led to this award,” Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tracey Deagle said. “Mark’s passion for teaching and his commitment to students is inspiring. He actively seeks new ways to engage students that makes his teaching both enjoyable and effective.”
The now teacher began his career in broadcast television, where he worked for 12 years before moving to the classroom. He taught in Amherst, Ohio for 18 years before joining the GLHS staff five years ago.
In his time leading Lincoln Live, Lowrie has grown the class enrollment from 27 to 130 students. Lincoln Live has accounted for seven National Student Production Awards (SPA) and 79 Regional SPAs from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The program led the nation in Student Emmys in 2022 with three.
“The way that Mark has taken Lincoln Live to the next level is fantastic,” GLHS Principal Jessica Williams said. “The awards for the program speak for themselves, but it is great to see him receive the recognition he deserves as well.”
